Rick SantorumCaught this on Twitter a little while ago:

In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Rick Santorum said his "snob" comment about Obama on education was "a strong term" and "probably not the smartest thing." Here's the full exchange from CNN's transcript: [..]

The problem with what Rick Santorum did wasn't calling President Obama a mean name, it's Santorum's crazy views on education that prompted the insult in the first place:

"President Obama has said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob," Santorum said Saturday.

The text doesn't do it justice. You can hear it in Santorum's voice when he says the word "snob". You can hear the seething hatred and contempt. He actually does sound like he's so upset that he wants to vomit.

But that's expected, because I think pretty much everyone knows that Rick Santorum is an asshole. The thing the media completely missed as the story wasn't what Santorum said, but why he said it.

Forget about the pandering to get rid of the Department of Education because it's unconstitutional (it's not) or is wasteful spending, which is an enormously stupid idea that would throw America's education system into chaos. Santorum doesn't believe that states should be involved in education. This isn't some run-of-the-mill GOP small government phony. He's a real anti-government true believer. The kind that wishes we didn't have a United States of America at all.

It wouldn't be so bad if he weren't just a proponent of home schooling, either. As terrible an idea as home schooling is (how often does your kid come how and ask you how to do a math problem and you can't help them because you don't know?) there are surely competent parents and tutors that can do a barely acceptable job. Santorum believes all children in America should be home schooled whether their parents like it or not. Not just pre-k, grade school, and high school. But even apparently college-level too.

One has to wonder if there is a quicker way than that to destroy America from the inside out. I mean come on, bin Laden killed 3,000 people and sent America on a path towards us taking away our own Constitutional rights. But he never in a thousand years could have dreamed of completely destroying our education system and guaranteeing that 95% of our population might someday not even know how to read and write. Forget losing the best higher education system on the planet (which the Santorum's the world would surely blame on liberals and Democrats the way they blame us for outsourcing, despite outsourcing being the result of GOP policies).

Even GOP governors from around the nation have sided with Obama on higher education, against Santorum, and these are hardly RINOs we're talking about.

But nooo, the media can't be bothered to report that. Then Rick Santorum might call them snobs too, and we can't have that. He called the President a name! How dare he! Let's obsess over that and make him apologize for adolescent name-calling, instead of reporting the amazingly extremist views that Santorum holds and regularly advocates for on education that could threaten the country's very existence, if made real.
